Construction has begun on the Lancaster City Convention Center. As of April 8, 2007 the facade of the Watt and Shand Building is the only part of the building still standing. Construction on the foundation of the Convention Center is underway. Here are photos from Conestoga Street, and from King Street and from the Lancaster Square. It is interesting how the workers constructed a steel frame, attached the facade to that, and then demolished the rest of the building behind the facade.

This view of the back of the building facade is from Vine Street. To the left side of the photo are some historic homes that are being saved as a part of the project. The tall building behind the construction area is the Greist Building on Lancaster Square.

It is pleasing that the planners are maintaining the facade of a historic Lancaster Building.
